Star Wars: The Old Republic is granted Grace Period
Well, in direct response to my earlier post (yes, I’m that important) Bioware and EA have decided to actually give a grace period on the game Star Wars: The Old Republic. There will be two days in which people can play for free and register their key. In good faith, if I receive my copy prior to the two days being up I will register earlier – however the chances are pretty damn slim, even though it shipped today.

This means that my previous post on this topic has been nullified by this recent news. Originally I intended to just update it, but as at the time it was true and Bioware/EA had reneged on a promise I have decided to leave it up until Bioware/EA/Stephen Reid press charges, at which point I’ll transform into a giant sea eagle and throw them into the ocean.
Star Wars: The Old Republic grace period
Heh, so I thought I could do a mini rant here about a lie by Stephen Reid about the grace period.
See, I don’t fall for the “Head of customer relations doesn’t know about grace period” gag. Doesn’t make sense, he had to know or he’s definitely a bad employee. So what’s the issue, you ask? In a post in August he stated, no ambiguity, that there was a grace period where people could play temporarily while they wait for their physical game box to arrive.
As of today, grace period is no more! Those people who bought physical editions won’t be able to play after the 20th December until their boxes arrive (providing they get to play prior to the 20th December at all). Ah, the rage was tremendous – roughly two pages of posts every 30 seconds, it hit 4000 posts in about an hour and a half.
Of course, there were the defenders who tried deflecting the blame to EA, and others who deflected the blame to Bioware, and even others who said there were no lies and things change. Since this is the XD Project where we are right and the world is wrong I’m going to go ahead and state categorically that those people are morons. That is all.
ATI loses again

Yes, I admit I am a total Nvidia fanboy. ATI sucks and I know it.
Yet another example of ATI’s continued inability to put out a decent product is their graphics cards not working with Star Wars: The Old Republic. A real sock in the eye for all those people who thought, “ATI will be great!”. Yeah, it’ll be great for watching YouTube.
Just to make sure I’m not misrepresenting anything here, let me put it out there in bullet point form:
- ATI
- Sucks
- A
- Lot
I hope that helps clarify things. I have never installed an ATI in any of my machines and if Nvidia keeps up their awesome track record I never will.

EA/Bioware Star Wars: The Old Republic Australian launch
I owe it to myself to post these thoughts on the failed release of Star Wars: The Old Republic in Australia. The story starts back in 2008 when caffeine_addict linked me to a new Star Wars game that was coming out. I remember being disappointed that it was an MMO because generally the players in MMO’s ruin the game experience but I started following the game. I was pretty excited for it for two years and then as the release date kept getting pushed back and more programming teams were thrown at it I gradually realised that the game was probably quite badly designed.
I watched the community a little bit, I enjoyed the fact that many mature players seemed to be frequenting the forums and many of SW:TOR’s potential player-base were new to MMORPG’s. As a current WoW player nothing annoys me quite as much as immaturity. A bit of fun is good, but older players seem to understand human relations a lot better and are much easier to get on with over a longer period of time. Also, they’re less likely to say things like “WTF NUB LRN2PLAY WHERS MY HEALZ??? IM UR GUILDIE LET TANK DIE SAVE ME I HATE YOU /Guild Quit”
Anyway, It’s July 2011, and I’ve been watching SW:TOR for three years and they aren’t going to release it in Australia. At least, they have no plans at this stage. Some might say “burned”.
