300th Post

Wow, that’s a milestone I didn’t expect.  Grats peeps.

I thought I’d flesh this out with some important stats.  In the years we’ve been posting (since January 2009) we have accomplished the following list.

Posts:

abba12 – 3 posts (1%)
Caffeine Addict – 59 posts (19.7%)
Daniel – 201 posts (67%)
DoozerDan – 37 posts (12.3%)

Not bad, that’s about a 20% brain damage increase since last years figures.

Re-Featured

Hello everyone!  I notice it’s been way too long since this got buried underneath our posts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_Yu-aYovwU

You’re welcome.

I was just browsing some of our oldest posts and realised that they were amusing, in the same way that anything random is generally amusing.  It’s like the auto-funny button – somebody suddenly falling down unexpectedly.  I’m not sure why but part of our brain reacts well to random information.

Part of me worries that one day I’ll get a phone call after an election from a LNP representative and they’ll say “Congratulations Daniel, you’re the new member for X” and I’ll be screwed.  I don’t attend any of their meetings so in the event they all hate each other so much they refuse to vote for each other I wouldn’t be there to burn down their houses and stop them voting me in absentia.

Also, to add to this post I have nothing to add.

P.S. We need to have another post category – Hilarious

NaNoWriMo 2011 preparations

That time of year where the authors of The XD Project take up their authors keyboards and battle toward a 50K mark is approaching yet again.  There are 3 months left until we start our … no, I’m not going to say that.  “Creative juices” always sounds kind of like a toddler eating paint to me.  Rather, I prefer to express it as “write our flamin’ giblets out”.

Last years novel was an absolutely epic success, the only thing I failed to insert which I will remedy this year is “Wizards on motorcycles”.  I’m caught between two ideas this year though, one is to have my massively over-powered main character fight in the brewing war, and the other is to fulfil another life-long ambition.  You see, two years ago at a bookfest I picked up a book I thought looked interesting – it was called “Warlock”.  I thought “Hmmm, two inches thick, someone wanted to really write an epic about a warlock” then I turned it over and read the back.  What nonsense and drivel is this?  The warlock wanted to save the world?

My second idea is to write about my main character AND a warlock from the opposition, both tasked by their gods toward the destruction of each other.  Just what everyone wants, a massive cataclysm between overpowered opponents.  This gon’ be a good book, y’all, y’all gonna wanna read this book. K, thanks, bye.

I’ve also been thinking – normally while I write Nano it’s a bit, well, if you think Pride and Prejudice is an action movie then I guess you could call my Nano’s exciting but for the rest of the world – it’s more like watching golf.  To alleviate said tedium I think this year I’ll pick a bunch of places to write and then drive there and write my novel in that setting.

Sudden thought – since the other XD Project authors fail at writing I should force them to collectively write a 50K story on this website during November and threaten to remove administrator access upon failure – as we all know, disincentive is far better motivation than reward.  I seem to remember when this site started we wrote a few posts about a story Dan and I were planning to write with collaborative input from the other editors.  I wonder what happened to that…too much planning, not enough action I think.  I can’t really remember the plot now either, something about a ranger, a trainee ranger, something else and maybe a volcano.  Ah yes, I drew a map which subsequently had the question asked about it “Did someone sit a toddler down and photocopy the result?”  Upon that fantastic evaluation of my abilities I bought proper map-rendering software last year for my epic novel and I think it turned out much better.

I think all I’m trying to say is I should probably write a plot soon.

My life goal

Yes, I have a life goal – it’s to be more nice.  I want to be a nice guy, someone who’s caring and compassionate, shows love to the world.  Sounds like a hippy.

With that in mind, I would like to say this:

“Why, God, why did you have to choose me to deal with these creations of yours who repeatedly bring to me queries which are self-answering.”

I had a client today ask me about why stock wasn’t appearing.  After giving me the wrong stockcode I found the right stockcode and showed her that she had returned it to the supplier.  Now I don’t want to appear to be too mean here so I’m just going to say that when you send stock back to a supplier you don’t have that stock any more, OK?

Her response to my very nice email was “oh my god”.

*twitches*

I love everyone.

Umart Act II: Scene 1

So you should all know the background to this post from my previous post.  Umart are taking way longer than auspcmarket to deliver the goods – quick perspective:

Auspcmarket – I put my order for Case/PSU/CPU on Wednesday night – they ordered the Case/PSU in and I had the order arrive on Monday

Umart – I put my order for a motherboard/RAM on Wednesday night, it is now Friday and I haven’t heard from them since they verified they’d received my pre-payment.  (Don’t forget they also started my warranty countdown from that point)

So I decided I’d give them a call today and see if I was going to get it this century and was greeted by a message, it went something like this: Read the rest of this entry »
