Update: Julia Gillard still not to be referred to as Prime Minister
by Daniel on Jun.28, 2010, under News
My personal heartfelt thanks go out to the editors who have been kept busy by the influx of site material pertaining to Julia Gillards recent deposition and styling up of herself as Prime Minister of Australia. The injunction still stands and this site will in no way, shape or form permit any literature of any kind relating to the unfortunate misdemeanors of an apparent “public servant”.
To clarify for those who have misunderstood the extent to which this injunction applies and (continue reading…)

There once was a man called Joe Blow who approached a large public company to become its CEO, it was put to a vote and the overwhelming consensus was that the man would do a great job, and so he became CEO. (continue reading…)
Concorde Computers – incredible service
by Daniel on Jun.25, 2010, under Random
So my video card blew up after two and a half years and I got sick of my Nvidia 7600GS so last night I went down to Concorde Computers to see what they could do for me. I’m a pretty loyal customer and buy most of my gear from them, and the following example details why.
I went down with the intention of not spending a lot because I’ll upgrade my main rig in February/March next year. However, there was no one else in the shop so I got to talking to the salesman, who asked why I needed a new one, my old one’s model, what I used it for, which game blew it up etc. He went on to talk about his own setup and what he’d recommend, then got a video card and explained it and how to use it. Then he went into how to take care of it, programs to monitor it, and recommended that when I upgrade just buy a second card and SLI them up to give me a second year out of the two.
I bought the card.
Then I came home and discovered that as of the prior nights update all my ports were blocked and I had no Internet. After spending an hour researching fixes for that I decided I still hated Microsoft and rebooted the system multiple times which fixed it. As it does. [sigh]
Anyway, the new graphics card is rocking out so far, World of Warcraft looks so much better…might reinstall NWN2 tonight if I can find the disk, and properly roadtest Metro 2033. However, in closing, I just wanted to reiterate that if you have a Comcorde Computers near you, try buying from them, the service is excellent.
Of PMs and Cars

The Administrator of The XD Project would like it to be known that the first half of this post was edited out due to a disregard to site rules in regard to calling PM Julia Gillard a ******.
Now onto the sanitised version of the remains of the post.
No posting about the change in PM (Official)
by Daniel on Jun.24, 2010, under General
Official Announcement: This site will not be commenting on the leadership change within the Australian Labor Party, a directive is herein formally issued to all editors to remove any and all references (whether subtle, implied or obvious) from all submissions in which the name “Julia Gillard” is in any way connected with either the Australian Labor Party or the term “Prime Minister”. Also forbidden is the usage of the term “Prime Minister Julia Gillard” or any abbreviation thereof (PM Julia Gillard and the like). Phrases such as “Julia is like a First Mate who after stabbing the captain of a sinking ship in the back scurries for the mast to preserve their life for a few more moments” or “When the money runs out, give your woman your wallet” or “How’s the mining tax Julia?” and all such derogatory and criticizing wording will in no way be permitted on the site. Any author found to be in breach of this injunction will be handed over to the Australian Labor Party to be stripped of their assets and sold into slavery before the rest of us. If genuine error can be proven and the author be of good reputation he will be spared the above but must make an oath to pray to his god in the following words at a minimum of ten times a day, failing which the above will be enforced.
“Oh great and mighty [insert deity/supreme being/yourself], I beseech thou that in these most dark and dreadful days that thou wilt shine thy light upon a darkening world in which the backstabbers profiteer from the wretchedness of a populace starving for the gentle guidance of good government by stabbing other backstabbing backstabbers in the back. Do not let these destroyers of homes come to power a second term, even if they shall offer us another $900 of our money back. Oh, and let the administrator of thexdproject.com become suddenly rich and powerful.”
I appreciate your compliance and look forward to your cooperation in the matter of this injunction.
Signed,
Daniel Downie (B.Acc)

A rant (part 30)
by Daniel on Jun.22, 2010, under Rants
I am so sick of idiots. I just am. I know. We all are sick of idiots. Great. Idiots. It doesn’t take much to be an idiot, but it’s when that idiot practices the art of idiocy over and over that it becomes annoyingly painful. Your regular idiot not only makes mistakes but stands by those mistakes and continues to make them for as long as possible or at least until they find a worse mistake they can practice.
Why do they do it? What makes them tick like that? Why have they never ever ever sat back and thought “Hmmm, I’m an idiot, what can I do about this?” Maybe they have, and that’s what I’d like to look at in this rant. Is people’s practiced stupidity really just evidence that we came from primordial soup or is there something in it that suggets a highly rationalised subset of the human psyche?
I’d like to look at this in several parts, let’s look at historical stupidity first to put our modern day in context. Our first example of stupidity (continue reading…)
